September 2019: Athlete of the Month – Jenilsa Lopez
What inspired you start CrossFit? How did your journey begin?
- I used to have a typical gym membership that I never used because I just didn’t love going. Came across BMCF one day with my daughters and gave it a try. I absolutely love going, the atmosphere is amazing and I’m simply addicted.
Tell us a little bit about yourself…what’s is a typical day for you? Anything you’d like to share?
- On a regular weekday I wake up around 4:30 am, walk my dogs, drink my coffee (I know bad for you) and go to the 5:45 am class. When I get home I make a quick breakfast and get the kids to school and get myself ready for work. During the summer time, I try my best to keep the same schedule going.
What was your athletic background before CrossFit?
- I honestly didn’t have much of an athletic background before CF. I only did the treadmill or the elliptical.
What has been your favorite CrossFit memory?
My favorite moment/memory since starting has been progressing on pull-ups. Also being able to meet new people at BMCF.
What is your favorite exercise/movement or workout, and what is your least favorite?
Favorite exercise is rowing/ deadlifts and least favorite is the bike.
What do you feel has been the biggest fitness goal or movement/skill you have achieved so far?
Rope climbing, I never thought I will ever be able to do that.
What is at least one fitness goal you have for yourself in the future?
Getting a handstand. Major mental block going on right now.
Who inspires you/who is your hero and why?
- My daughters, they motivate me to do my best with everything I do, because of them I need to make sure I stay healthy. I need to show them that nothing in life is handed to you, you need to work hard to get what you want.
What advice would you give people just starting CrossFit?
Always strive and never give up!
